Tavernier reveals Goldson 'assist' for Rangers winner against Livingston

Tavernier reveals Goldson 'assist' for Rangers winner against Livingston

JAMES TAVERNIER has revealed Connor Goldson played a key role in his stunning free-kick winner over Livingston.

The Rangers captain continued his excellent scoring form for Rangers into a new season as he fired home to earn the win after Scott Arfield's equaliser.

Tavernier curled home a free-kick to Shamal George's left - and told Sky Sports after the match that Goldson had told him to shoot that direction.

Borna Barisic had shot towards the same corner with a free-kick earlier in the match prompting Goldson to urge his team-mate to gamble and go the same way.

And it paid off for Tavernier as he sent the packed Rangers allocation wild with a terrific winning goal to start the season with three points.

Discussing the winner, Tavernier said: "Borna (Barisic) went to the keeper's side with his free kick and he (George) actually gambled a bit.

"Connor came up to us and told me to go the same way, so I placed it in the view of the goalkeeper and I was delighted to see it go in.

"I would have liked us to get a clean sheet today, but I'll obviously try and help the team with more goals and assists."
