Taulupe Faletau wanted by Eddie Jones to turn out for Barbarians against World XV

Taulupe Faletau is the latest star to be invited by Eddie Jones to feature for the Barbarians' clash against a World XV at Twickenham in May.

Wales, Lions and Cardiff back-rower Faletau, 32, could join fellow Welsh teammates Alun Wyn Jones and Rhys Webb in turning out for the Baa-Baas on May 28 alongside the likes of Joe Marler, Danny Care, Dan Cole, Sam Simmonds, Jack Nowell, and Jonny May, who are also thought to have been sounded out by Jones. Harlequins and Springboks centre Andre Esterhuizen has also been linked with making an appearance.

The fixture will mark Jones' return to Twickenham, the day after the Gallagher Premiership final, since his exit from his role as England head coach. He has since been appointed as Australia head coach.

It will be 63-year-old Jones' second time taking charge of the Baa-Baas, having previously done so against Fiji in 2019.

Faletau is currently in Wales' Six Nations camp, preparing for the fourth-round clash against Italy. If he were to accept Jones' invitation, he would emulate compatriot Derek Quinnell, who started at the back of the scrum for the Baa-Baas 50 years ago when the invitational side beat New Zealand. Quinnell threw the scoring pass for Gareth Edwards’ iconic try in 1973.

Former Wales and All Blacks boss Steve Hansen will be taking charge of a World XV.
