Taulia Tagovailoa, Brother of Tua, Just Broke a Massive Big Ten Football Record

With another dazzling effort in Maryland’s season finale, standout quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa can now officially add another accolade to his glowing résumé following a big day against Rutgers.

Tagovailoa, the brother of former Alabama and current Dolphins star QB Tua Tagovailoa, made NCAA history by passing Purdue’s Curtis Painter to become the Big Ten’s all-time passing yards leader.

Beginning the game 269 yards shy of the record, Tagovailoa needed only the first half to reach his goal, as the redshirt senior went 16-of-20 for 298 passing yards to reach 11,193 yards for his career and surpass Painter’s record of 11,163 yards.

A Maryland legend long before Saturday afternoon, Tagovailoa, the program’s single-season and all-time leader in completions and passing yards, now stands alone in the annals of Big Ten history as the conference’s most prolific passer.

With his latest achievement in the record books, Tagovailoa’s fourth and final year in College Park will likely go down as his best. He concludes a collegiate career that saw him enter the ranks as a seldom-used freshman backup to his older brother with the Crimson Tide in 2019.
