Tattooed jogger found collapsed near canal and police can't identify him

Police have appealed for help in identifying a jogger who was found collapsed in Runcorn .

Cheshire Constabulary said a member of the public discovered the man on the towpath running alongside the Bridgewater Canal near Astmoor industrial Estate at around 6.45am today.

A force spokesman said the man was taken to Warrington General Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

The man was not carrying any identification and it is not known how old he is but police said he was wearing a bright orange T-shirt and had "distinctive tattoos".

The T-shirt features the phrase "I MARATON SOLIDARIA DI CICLO" and also "PINATARARENA" on it.

The man is estimated to be in his 50s, white, around 5ft 11ins tall with grey hair and a white beard.

Anyone who believes they may know his identity is urged to contact Cheshire police on 101, quoting IML 406816.
