Tate Martell reportedly misses practice after losing starting job at Miami

We have know way to know if this was already planned or if there was something going on unrelated, but former Ohio State and current Miami quarterback Tate Martell did not practice Monday after learning that he lost out on the starting job with the Hurricanes.

Martell had been embattled in a three-way quarterback competition with redshirt freshman Jarren Williams and last year’s part-time starter N’Kosi Perry. All of this after transferring from Ohio State when Justin Fields decided to transfer into the Buckeye program from Georgia.

But things haven’t turned out as Martell likely expected as he’s right back where he started — as a backup at a high profile program.

A university of Miami spokesman confirmed that Martell is still on the roster and that he was absent from practice Monday in a response from Inside the U. But all is not lost.

Martell reportedly showed at a team meeting on Monday night and spoke to the team, presumably looking to move forward. He was expected back at practice Tuesday according to the Miami Herald.

UPDATE: Martell was indeed at practice according to video shared on Twitter by Manny Navarro of The Athletic.
