Tatar's hat trick helps Red Wings defeat Ducks, 6-4

DETROIT _ The Detroit Red Wings scored a season-high six goals and Tomas Tatar netted his first career hat trick.

The offensive outburst helped the Wings snap a four-game winless streak at home. The Wings went on to beat the Ducks, 6-4, Saturday at Joe Louis Arena.

Xavier Ouellet chipped in a goal and an assist, Tomas Vanek added two assists and Dylan Larkin scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season for the Wings.

Tatar scored his third goal of the game at 4:51 of the third period to give the Wings a 5-3 lead. It was Tatar's seventh goal of the season.

Rickard Rakell scored unassisted at 6:35 of the third period to cut the Wings' lead to 5-4. It was Rakell's second goal of the game and 14th of the season.

Frans Nielsen scored at 10:33 of the third period to give the Wings a 6-4 cushion. Vanek picked up his second assist of the game on Nielsen's goal.

The Wings had fallen behind, 3-1, in the second period after a goal by Ducks defenseman Cam Fowler at 5:16, but scored the next three goals.

Joe Louis Arena's lively end boards assisted on Tatar's second goal off the game, at 7:14 of the second. The puck bounced off the end boards, off goaltender Jonathan Bernier's left pad, then off his left arm and into the net.

Larkin tied the game, 3-3, at 11:22 of the second. Ouellet netted his first goal of the season to give the Wings a 4-3 lead at 17:52 of the second.

Mrazek made a huge save on a shot by Corey Perry, then the Wings went down the ice and tied the game on Larkin's goal, which stood after a review and then a coach's challenge. Larkin crashed the net and made contact with Bernier as the puck went in the net. The Ducks challenged that it was goaltender interference, but lost.

John Gibson replaced Bernier in net for the Ducks to start the third period and gave up Tatar's third goal.

The Ducks scored a pair of power-play goals in the first period to take a 2-0 lead. Rakell opened the scoring at 3:41. Ouellet had gone off for cross-checking Jakob Silfverberg at 2:13. Sami Vatanen found Rakell at the far left post and Rakell knocked the puck into an open net.

The Ducks took a 2-0 lead midway through the first period on defenseman Shea Theodore's first goal of the season. The Wings challenged that the Ducks were off-sides before the puck went in, but the call stood.

NHL Hockey Operations staff were "inconclusive in determining whether the Ducks were off-side prior to the goal" according to a statement from the NHL Situation Room.

According to Rule 78.7, "if a review is not conclusive and/or there is any doubt whatsoever as to whether the call on the ice was correct, the On-Ice Official(s) will be instructed to confirm their original call."

Tatar scored his fifth goal of the season to cut the deficit to 2-1 at 13:33 of the first. Tatar knocked in a rebound following a shot by Mike Green, who picked up his 11th assist.
