Tata Steel warns residents of increased noise due to 'essential maintenance' at Port Talbot site

Port Talbot residents are being warned to expect increased levels of noise today due to essential maintenance work at Tata Steel.

The work at the power plant in Port Talbot is due to start on Thursday at 7am and continue until around midday.

A spokesman for the company said: "Tata Steel takes its relationship with the local community very seriously and during this activity will make every effort to keep any disruption to a minimum".

The work comes amid a warning that the company is expecting to cut 1,000 jobs across the UK as part of its restructuring plans.

Port Talbot employs 4,000 workers, nearly half of Tata's UK workforce, but the firm has yet to specify which UK locations will suffer the cuts.
