Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles on Thursday launched the next-generation Tiago and Tiago.ev, betting on premium technology, multiple powertrain choices and aggressive pricing to revive India’s hatchback segment.
The next-gen Tiago petrol range starts at an introductory ex-showroom price of Rs 4.69 lakh, while the Tiago.ev starts at Rs 6.99 lakh under the full ownership model. Tata Motors is also offering the Tiago.ev under its Battery-as-aService (BaaS) model at a starting vehicle price of Rs 4.69 lakh plus battery usage charges of Rs 2.6 per km.
The Tiago iCNG range starts at Rs 5.79 lakh.
Built on the legacy of over 700,000 Tiago customers, Tata Motors said the new lineup has been “holistically reimagined” with a sharper focus on design, connected technology, safety and ownership economics.
“Hatchbacks remain the gateway to personal mobility for millions of Indian families and yet, for far too long, this segment received scarce attention from the industry, when it genuinely deserved far more. The Next Gen Tiago fulfils this need by offering substantially more,” said Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director and CEO, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd.
Calling the new Tiago “not an evolution but a full reinvention”, Chandra said the hatchback now brings “substantially updated exteriors, a significantly more premium interior experience, advanced connected technology including a 360° surround view system with blind view monitor, and a strengthened safety package”.
The company is positioning the Tiago.ev as an affordable mass-market EV with lower running costs and faster charging capabilities.
“The Next Gen Tiago.ev fundamentally changes the financial logic of EV ownership,” Chandra said.
“With an industry-first Lifetime Battery HV Warranty, enhanced fast charging that adds 100 kilometres in just 18 minutes and running cost savings that recovers the vehicle's value within four to five years, the Tiago.ev is the first EV in India that is not just emotionally engaging but also financially smart,” he added.
Tata Motors said the Tiago.ev’s lifetime battery warranty will apply to the 24 kWh battery pack for the first owner for up to 15 years.
The company also highlighted that the hatchback segment remains underserved despite being the entry point for millions of first-time car buyers, adding that modern design, safety and technology “are not privileges reserved for higher segments”.
Features and technology
The next-gen Tiago gets a significantly upgraded cabin and connected technology suite, headlined by a 10.25-inch Ultra HD touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. Tata Motors has also added a dual-screen dashboard layout, wireless charger, rear AC vents and a redesigned “Grand Tech” centre console aimed at giving the hatchback a more premium in-cabin experience.
On the safety and driver assistance front, the Tiago lineup now features a segment-first 360-degree surround-view HD camera and blind view monitor, alongside electronic stability program (ESP), traction control and six airbags on the Tiago.ev. The hatchback also gets LED DRLs, connected tail lamps and diamond-cut alloy wheels as part of its exterior refresh.
Tata Motors continues to offer the Tiago with multiple powertrain choices spanning petrol manual, petrol AMT, iCNG manual, iCNG AMT and electric variants. The Tiago.ev also gets enhanced fast-charging capability, with the company claiming the car can add up to 100 km of range in 18 minutes.
