Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein has been discharged from hospital.

Acting Premier Jeremy Rockliff told Parliament that Mr Gutwein left hospital in Hobart on Monday afternoon.

He had become unwell in his office earlier in the day.

Mr Rockliff said a series of tests have excluded any serious conditions.

In Parliament on Tuesday, Mr Rockliff said he had spoken to the Premier on Monday night and on Tuesday morning, and indicated he was in "very good spirits".

"A series of tests have excluded any serious acute conditions and he was discharged from hospital yesterday afternoon."

He said the Premier would take a few days off to rest and recover, and would be absent from the house for the rest of the week.

"I'm sure we all wish him well for a very speedy recovery," he said.

Mr Rockliff will remain Acting Premier in Mr Gutwein's absence, as well as taking on his tourism and climate change portfolios.

Finance Minister Michael Ferguson will take on Mr Gutwein's Treasury portfolio.

The state government will aim to pass the state budget this week in Parliament.

Eighteen hours have been set aside for debate.
