Tasmanian man, 32, dies in jet ski crash at Marion Bay

A man has died in a jet ski accident in Tasmania, with police saying he may have collided with a navigation buoy on the way to pickup friends at a nearby town.

Police said friends of the 32-year-old man from Dodges Ferry began searching for him after he failed to return from a ride on Saturday.

They later found the jet ski washed up on rocks near their campsite at Marion Bay, on Tasmania's south-east coast.

Police were called around 1.00am with a helicopter and water police joining the search.

At 1.30am the man was located in the water by friends, but he could not be revived, police said.

"Investigations indicate the man had left the campsite to transport two friends to Marion Bay, and may have hit a navigation beacon on the journey back to the campsite," they said.

Police will hold a press conference later today about the incident.
