Qld-Tas one-day cup match halted by rain

Rain has stopped play in the domestic one-day cup match between Tasmania and Queensland in Townsville, with the hosts in early trouble.

Sent in to bat by the Tigers, Queensland have lost opening pair Sam Heazlett (0) and Usman Khawaja (3) to be 2-12 after 5.2 overs.

Riley Meredith (1-7) snared Heazlett in the first over of the match at Riverway Stadium before ex-Test quick Peter Siddle (1-4) removed in-form Bulls captain Khawaja for just three.

Test batter Marnus Labuschagne is unbeaten on four with ex-Test opener Matt Renshaw alongside him on one not out.

Ben Manenti is on debut for Tasmania and has made an instant impact, taking the catch at point to dismiss Khawaja.

The Tigers have also picked Ben McDermott after he missed the Sheffield Shield clash between the two teams over the weekend due to a back injury.

Jake Doran has been overlooked for a non-COVID related medical issue.
