Tasmania to ease border restrictions with South Australia from Thursday

It will be the first time Tasmania's borders will be open to all other states and territories in nine months.

South Australia will be classified as a low-risk area to Tasmania from this Thursday, meaning travellers won't have to quarantine on arrival.

The exception will be people who have been to locations identified by SA Health as posing high risk.

These places will be specified by the Tasmanian Director of Public Health later today.

Anyone who is quarantining in Tasmania based on time spent in SA will be able to end their quarantine on Thursday, when Tasmania will be open to all other states and territories for the first time in nine months.

Tasmania opened its border to Victorians last week after being closed for nearly eight months.

Last month, South Australian authorities announced residents in Parafield were caught in a COVID-19 cluster, causing many states to close their borders to SA.

There were no new COVID-19 cases recorded in SA on Tuesday, but authorities have added an old case to the tally, which was not publicly reported at the time it was identified.

The number of cases linked to the Parafield cluster is 33 — 11 of them active — and about 1,100 people are in quarantine.
