Tasmania records 24 COVID hospitalisations and 1,201 new cases

Twenty-four COVID patients are in hospital in Tasmania, as the state records 1,201 new cases.

No-one is in ICU, and of the total hospitalisations 10 are being treated specifically for COVID-19 symptoms.

Thirty-nine people are being treated at a community case management facility, and 293 are receiving care through the COVID at home program.

Tasmania's total number of active cases has reached 7,439, with 1,731 people reaching the end of their quarantine in the past 24 hours.

Of the new cases, 349 were detected via PCR testing, and 852 through rapid antigen tests (RAT).

More than 2,000 lab tests were carried out, a slight decrease on yesterday's numbers, and 13,262 RATs were distributed.

Ninety-three per cent of Tasmanians over the age of 12 have had two doses of a vaccine, and 23 per cent of those 18 and over have received their booster shot.

From January 15, anyone requiring a rapid test must first request a kit through Public Health prior to collection.

As of Saturday, eligible people will need to register their details via an online registration form on the Tasmanian government's coronavirus website.

Once registered an SMS (text message) will be sent providing details on where the allocated RAT test can be collected from.
