Tasmania Police have cracked a Queensland-based drug syndicate, seizing the largest-ever haul of illicit substances and cash set for the island state.
More than $5.5 million in money and illegal drugs were claimed as part of the operation, investigators said in a statement on Tuesday.
Six people are facing charges of trafficking in a controlled substance and dealing with the proceeds of crime.
Some 3.8 kilograms of the drug ice was seized, along with seven kilograms of cocaine, worth a combined $4 million on the street, and $1.57 million in cash.
Police conducted a series of searches of cars and property in Queensland and Tasmania. The haul of drugs and cash was the largest-ever headed for Tasmania.
"Criminals involved in the manufacture and distribution of drugs in Tasmania should take notice," a Tasmania Police spokesman said.
"We will identify you, we will investigate you and we will prosecute you for the importation and distribution of illicit drugs into Tasmania."
The investigation, which was launched in 2020, was supported by the Australian Federal Police, the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission and Queensland Police.
It is separate to an AFP and FBI sting which resulted in more than 200 of Australia's mafia and bikie underworld being arrested.
