Tasmania Now: Shark attack survivor celebrates one year on with fundraiser for rescuers

Justine Barwick was given a shark cake at a fundraiser for the RACQ CQ rescue service at her work in Burnie.

Here's what you need to know today:

Shark attack survivor thanks rescuers

A Tasmanian woman who survived a serious shark attack in the Whitsundays is commemorating a year since the incident by fundraising for her rescuers.

Justine Barwick was bitten on the thigh by a shark in Cid Harbour last year and underwent extensive reconstructive surgery to save her leg.

It's been a year since then and while Ms Barwick is now back to work full-time, she says she has lifelong disabilities and has to have ongoing specialist care.

"Sometimes life decides to try and break us and we can either get broken or get better. I chose to get better. I'll never be as good as I was but I think I am doing pretty well to make a new me," she said.

Truck rollover at Apsley

The Highland Lakes Road at Apsley will be blocked for about 12 hours as police and emergency services clear the scene of a truck roll-over.

The rollover near Bothwell has left a large part of a wind turbine across the road.

Police say there are no reported injuries but the road is completely blocked.

Drivers are asked to avoid the rollover site, which is about three kilometres towards the Bothwell side of the intersection with Lower Marshes Road.

Cattle death court case delayed again

A hearing in Burnie Magistrates Court into the deaths of 59 cattle on a sea journey from Tasmania to Victoria in 2016 has been delayed again.

The cattle were among a shipment of 200 travelling on the MV Statesman to Victoria but were so badly injured they either died while in transit or had to be put down in Victoria.

Shipping operator Les Dick and two others have pleaded not guilty to aggravated animal cruelty charges.

The hearing had been due to start on Monday, three years after the deaths, but was adjourned on Wednesday for an independent mental assessment of Mr Dick.

The matter has been adjourned for eight weeks, to late November.

The ABC understands the case is not expected to go to hearing until next year.

Basketball stars arrive ahead of NBL Blitz

US basketball hot shot LaMelo Ball has touched down in Tasmania ahead of the NBL Blitz Pre-Season competition.

Ball, 18, who is a projected top-five pick at the next NBA draft, arrived on Wednesday with his Illawarra Hawks team mates, and will be the star attraction of the round-robin tournament.

The NBL Blitz is being staged across Tasmania by the NBL in a bid to gauge public support for a standalone Tasmanian team.

Ball will take to the court with Illawarra tomorrow night in Kingborough when his side meets the Perth Wildcats.

Weather

A strong wind warning has been issued for eastern coastal waters from the northern tip of Flinders Island to South East Cape, and for western coastal waters from Low Rocky Point to Stanley.

It's fine apart from light showers developing about the north and northeast, mainly inland.

A full and updated list of warnings can be found on the Bureau of Meteorology's Tasmanian Warnings summary webpage.

As of 6:00am the Pinnacle Road to the summit of Hobart's kunanyi/Mount Wellington was closed at The Springs.

Check the council website for the updated status of Pinnacle Road.
