Tasmania is easing restrictions on churches, theatres and cinemas in time for Christmas, while paving the way for bigger cricket crowds in the New Year.

Premier Peter Gutwein announced on Wednesday outdoor sporting events could shift from 50 per cent capacity to 75 per cent on January 1.

Hobart is set to host two Big Bash League fixtures in early 2021 as part of a hub arrangement.

Theatres and cinemas can increase capacity to 75 per cent on Monday, while restrictions on church and religious gatherings will be eased before Christmas.

From Sunday, they'll shift to 75 per cent capacity but only for a week.

State Public Health Director Mark Veitch said it was important people had the opportunity to take part in religious ceremonies.

There are just four active COVID-19 cases in Tasmania, a family who tested positive while in hotel quarantine last week after returning on a repatriation flight from India.

The man, woman and two children were moved to a different facility but are tracking well to be released from their two weeks' isolation on Sunday, Dr Veitch said.

Tasmania is scheduled to take another repatriation flight from India on January 8.

A flight of seasonal workers from Tonga is slated to touch down on Friday.

Workers on an earlier flight from East Timor will begin fruit picking from Tuesday when their fortnight of quarantine ends.
