Deputy Transport Minister Phattrapong Phattraprasit has ordered a special task force to address the growing problem of bird strikes on aircraft.
The ministry says there were 1,644 bird strike incidents last year, causing damage to engines, aircraft components, and cockpit windshields, as well as flight delays. The cost to airlines was over 530 million baht annually.
The task force will focus on scientific measures and innovative solutions to mitigate risks. Authorities said Thailand's environment, which supports large bird populations, combined with increasing flight volumes, makes bird strikes a persistent challenge.
