A taser and knife were found when a Ford Focus was stopped and searched yesterday.

The car was stopped in Birkenhead on Thursday, April 28, when patrols saw a suspected drug deal at around 3pm on Whetstone Lane. After officers stopped and searched the white Ford, they found a bag of white powder (suspected class A drugs), a taser, a Stanley knife and a quantity of cash.

The driver of the car, a 42-year-old man from Oxton, was arrested on suspicion of possession of class A drugs, possession of a bladed article, possession of a section 5 firearm and possession of criminal property. He has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries after being questioned by police.

Sergeant Coast from Wirral's Targeted Policing Team said: “Thanks to the vigilance of our officers, dangerous weapons and drugs have now been removed from our streets and can no longer be used to cause fear and harm in our communities in Birkenhead and across Merseyside.

“No criminal should profit from the misery that drugs bring to our communities while law-abiding people work hard to earn an honest living. If you know someone in your area involved in suspected drug dealing please let us know so we can bring them to justice.”
