Tas search under way for missing 4yo

Tasmanian police are increasingly concerned about missing girl Shayla Phillips, 4. (AAP)

An intensive search is under way in Tasmania for a four-year-old girl who went missing on the Tasman Peninsula near Port Arthur.

Shayla Phillips went missing on Wednesday afternoon and was last seen about 2.30pm near Stormlea Rd, wearing pink leggings, a cream top, and gumboots.

A dog that was with her was found about 7pm about 800 metres from where she was last seen.

Inspector Gavin Hallett said police were increasingly concerned about Shayla's welfare.

"Due to the isolation and terrain in the Stormlea Rd area where Shayla was last seen, a broad range of resources are continuing to be utilised to search from the air and on the ground," he said.

Police, divers, drone operators and detectives are working with the State Emergency Service, Ambulance Tasmania and a rescue helicopter.

Police broadened the search area, went back over old ground and brought in extra resources on Thursday.
