Tasmania has declared it wants to be front and centre as a tourism destination when people are allowed to travel freely.
The Liberal state government on Thursday committed an extra $18 million in its 2021/22 budget to support tourism marketing over four years.
The island state, which has been quick to capitalise on geographic isolation and lock out states and territories hit by COVID-19, has recorded just one case this year.
"It is essential that when people can start to travel further afield again, Tasmania is front and centre as a travel destination," said Premier Peter Gutwein, who is also the state's treasurer.
Mr Gutwein said Tasmania was on board with the federal government's road map for the easing of border restrictions when 70 to 80 per cent of the population is vaccinated.
The budget also includes $145 million for Tasmania's parks and reserves over four years, including $4 million towards the development of Freycinet National Park on its picturesque east coast.
Other improvements will be made to Hastings Thermal Pools and to make the Ben Lomond mountain in the state's north more accessible.
About $10 million will go towards new and improved driving opportunities on the rugged west coast.
A handful of "iconic events" such as popular winter festival Dark Mofo and car rally Targa Tasmania will benefit from $21.5 million in support to help ensure their future.
The state government recently rolled out a $7.5 million travel voucher scheme to 25,000 locals to help boost the ailing tourism sector.
