A TARTAN Army fan has died in Boston after travelling to the United States to fulfil his “dream” of supporting Scotland at a World Cup.

Donny Strathie was one of thousands of Tartan Army fans who witnessed John McGinn create history on Saturday evening after Scotland beat Haiti 1-0 in their opening match of the tournament.

However, the 76-year-old from Grangemouth passed away in Boston on Sunday, just hours after Scotland’s victory.

The dad had tickets to see Scotland take on Morocco this Friday and his family has now called on the Tartan Army to “make him proud” and devote one minute of applause to him in the 76th minute of the match.

It had reportedly been Strathie’s dream to watch Scotland play in a World Cup, but he passed away before he was able to.

An online message reportedly said: “Donny passed away suddenly in Boston on Sunday aged 76.

“He had his ticket to this match and it was his dream to see Scotland in the World Cup, but he never got the chance.

"Let’s make him proud.”

The Tartan Army also posted a statement online which encouraged fans to partake in the one minute applause.

It read: “We’ve learnt some bad news that Donny Strathie passed away in Boston on Sunday.

“He had a ticket for the Morocco game, but never got the chance to realize his World Cup dream.

“It would mean a lot to his family if we could organise a minutes applause in the 76th minute of the Morocco game.”
