Taron Egerton kisses Elton John's hand and ties his laces at Rocketman premiere

Taron Egerton jokingly kissed Elton John's hand and tied his shoe laces at the Rocketman premiere tonight.

The actor plays the superstar in the new biopic, which got his first screening at the Cannes Film Festival in France.

Taron, 29, and Elton, 72, walked the red carpet together, and the movie star couldn't resist paying homage to the music legend in front of the cameras.

The Kingsman star also wore red-tinted sunglasses in a nod to Elton and a silver velvet jacket, while Elton had the words Rocket Man in sequins on the back of his blazer.

The movie tells the story of Elton's early years and was co-produced by the singer and his partner David Furnish.

They were joined at the glitzy screening by Taron's co-star Richard Madden, 32, who plays Elton's former lover and manager, John Reid.

Bryce Dallas Howard, who plays Elton's mother Sheila, is also at Cannes to help promote the new movie.

Elton and Taron teamed up for a duet which features in the movie and has been released as a single.

The new track, (I’m Gonna) Love Me Again, was previously released by Taron, who seems keen to show off his musical abilities.

Elton previously revealed he wanted Taron to be heavily involved in the film's music.

He said: "It was so important that the music I composed and recorded had to be sung by Taron.

"I wanted his interpretation of me, through Bernie [Taupin]’s lyrics and my music – not just acting.

"I left Taron in the hands of [producer and composer] Giles Martin, who I trusted implicitly because he’s brilliant.

"I didn’t want to be in Taron’s shadows, watching over the process.

"I trusted them to do what they needed to do, artistically, and, listening back, I’ve been astonished with the results.

"Getting the music right was the most important thing, as the songs in the film are integral to the story.”
