Taron Egerton spotted filming Tetris movie in Hamilton and nearby pizza firm fed hungry crew

Rocketman star Taron Egerton was in Hamilton at the weekend filming scenes for his latest Holywood blockbuster.

And a nearby pizza company were surprised to get the call to deliver food for the crew.

The town’s council buildings, in Beckford Street, were closed off as film crews parked up on Saturday to shoot scenes for Tetris.

Hamilton and parts of Glasgow doubled up as Soviet Russia as filming continued throughout the weekend.

The cameras were rolling outside the headquarters of South Lanarkshire Council and Taron, complete with a moustache, even posted a picture of himself on his Insta account outside the building.

And their order to a shocked Boss Pizza included a margherita, meat feast, veggie volcano, veggie feast and pepperoni.

Boss Pizza manager Ross Findlay said “It will be good to see Hamilton feature in a Hollywood blockbuster. I can’t believe that the filming was taking place on our doorstep here in Almada Street.

“These things don’t happen around here very often. We were honoured to supply Boss Pizza to the filming, which took place less than 200 meters from our kitchen.

"We delivered pizzas but our driver was not allowed in as the street entrance was blocked by security."

The movie chronicles the Cold War legal skirmishes over the ownership of one of the world’s most-played games.

Egerton plays Dutch video game designer and entrepreneur Hank Rodgers in the movie.

The movie is being produced and financed by Matthew Vaughn’s Marv Films, with Aberdeen-born Jon S Baird in the director’s chair, following on from his work on 2018’s Stan & Ollie and 2013’s Filth.

Filming in Scotland began back in December and is expected to continue until mid-February.

This isn’t the first time that film crews have been in Hamilton. Back in 2018, former Doctor Who star Jenna Coleman was in town to shoot four-part psychological The Cry for BBC One. Lighting rigs, filming trucks and a catering bus were all seen in and around Beckford Street and large lighting cranes were seen towering over Hamilton Sheriff Court.
