Tarik Cohen on Bears’ offense: ‘We’re just getting ready to match our defense”

When you think of the Chicago Bears, you don’t think of high-powered offenses. You think of dominant defenses that have had to sometimes carry mediocre offenses.

Offenses with subpar quarterback play and where receivers go to die. The Bears have never been known for elite offensive play. At least, not in the modern era of the NFL.

But if the 2019 Bears offense has anything to say about it, they’re going to rewrite that narrative.

“I feel like our defense is well-known already,” Tarik Cohen told SiriusXM NFL Radio. “Our offense is just getting into the swing of things. With us all being young, we’re finally maturing, and we’re just getting ready to match our defense.”

Cohen elaborated on what it would mean for the Bears offense to match the play of its defense, something that is quite familiar with Bears fans.

“Not get bailed out by them,” he said. “I feel like a couple of those games, they bailed us out. So I want to do the same for them.”

For an offense that ranked 21st in the NFL last season, they have a long way to go to become the kind of offense they aspire to be.

Year 2 in this system will be crucial for all, especially third-year QB Mitch Trubisky. The goal is to not only become more consistent, but to become a unit capable of carrying the team if, say, the defense has an off game.

If the offense wants to match the Bears defense, they’re going to have to prove they can take games over, just as the defense has proven it can do.
