Targeting Devin Bush in the first round could be expensive for the Steelers

NFL draft analyst Tony Pauline does a great job keeping everyone current on which teams are interested in which prospects. He is an invaluable source of information when it comes to teams meeting with prospects following pro days. His latest nugget involves the Pittsburgh Steelers and former Michigan linebacker Devin Bush.

According to Pauline, the Steelers have a significant interest in Bush and Pauline claims, he is the top target of Pittsburgh in the first round. He said as much on his podcast.

This should come as a surprise to no one, but a Michigan coach, right after pro day, told me it looked like the Pittsburgh Steelers had ten coaches and scouts on hand for the Michigan pro day and they were all crowding around Bush the entire workout. Now, while the number of Steelers personnel people on hand at the pro day was probably an exaggeration, his point was not lost on me, and that is all signs point to the Pittsburgh Steelers selecting Devin Bush in the first round, if he’s available to them.

On paper this is exciting news. Bush is one of the two best inside linebackers in this draft and the gap between him and the next-best linebacker in this draft is a chasm.

But the reality is, if the Steelers are banking on Bush making it to 20, it’s a longshot. Could all this interest mean the Steelers are willing to make a move, trade up into the Top 10 and draft Bush? While we appreciate the Steelers’ positivity, let’s hope their backup plan is solid when Bush is long gone.
