Taoiseach Micheál Martin is getting an "immediate" Covid-19 test and limiting his contacts after he attended a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron who has tested positive for Covid-19.
Mr Martin attended a European Council meeting last Thursday and Friday with Mr Macron.
The Taosieach is expected to get the result of his test later and has postponed engagements planned for this afternoon.
A spokesman for Mr Martin told the Irish Mirror: "The Taoiseach is limiting his contacts this afternoon following the news of the positive test result for Mr Macron and we're getting him tested immediately and that should be turned around in the next few hours.
"So we should have the result this afternoon, in the meantime he is limiting his contacts.
"There were a few engagements that we're postponing this afternoon, they've been pushed back.
"He is just limiting himself to making calls but he's not meeting anyone and is limiting his contacts until the result comes back."
