Taoiseach Micheal Martin 'looking forward' to registering for Astra Zeneca vaccine as portal opens

Micheál Martin has told the Irish Mirror he is looking forward to registering for his jab as the the online portal opened for the over 60s on Tuesday.

The Taoiseach is 60 since last August and so is next up in the age bracket entitled to register for the first time from today for the life-changing jab.

Mr Martin told the Mirror that he is looking forward to signing up as the portal allows.

He said: “I’m looking forward to registering on the portal and getting a date for my AstraZeneca vaccine.

“The vaccination programme is gathering pace and the vaccines are having a tremendous impact on reducing mortality, serious illness and transmission of the COVID virus.”

The jabs programme has now seen over 1,400,000 vaccines administered, with more than a million people receiving at least one dose.

All of our citizens in nursing homes, over 65s in Long Term Care Facilities (LTCF) and frontline healthcare workers have got a jab.

Meanwhile, the Taoiseach was at Dublin Zoo yesterday (MON) as the latest lifting of Covid restrictions saw the zoo open to visitors for the first time this year.

Other heritage sites that got the green light to reopen their outside facilities yesterday included the National Botanical Gardens in Glasnevin, Dublin, Trim Castle, Kells Priory and the Hill of Tara.
