Micheal Martin took to Twitter this afternoon to confirm he has received his second dose of a Covid-19 vaccine at the centre in Pairc Ui Chaoimh.
The Taoiseach thanked staff at the Dublin location for their efforts in his post and confirmed that the vaccine rollout is continuing “at pace”.
He confirmed that everyone aged between 60 and 69 in Ireland will be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 by July 18.
He wrote; “Great to get my second #COVIDVaccine today.
“Thank you to all the team at Páirc Uí Chaoimh for your amazing efforts.
“The vaccine rollout is continuing at pace - we’re on track to have everyone aged 60-69 fully vaccinated by the end of next week.”
According to the latest vaccine statistics from the HSE, over 58,000 doses were administered today and over 221,000 from Monday to Thursday.
Over 54% of the adult population are now fully vaccinated against the severe side effects of Covid-19, as pharmacies continue to call 18-34-year-olds for their dose.
Meanwhile, the online portal for those aged 30-34 who would like to opt for an mRNA vaccine opened this week.
On Thursday, HSE Chief Executive, Paul Reid said we are now in a "real race to get the vaccine out ahead of the spread of the Delta variant" of Covid-19.
However, he said the "most likely" scenario is that the pace of growth of Delta will "outmatch our supply of vaccines over the coming weeks".
The latest modelling shows that cases associated with this variant of concern "will rise during July and probably peak into August".
