Taoiseach Leo Varadkar says gap between UK and EU on Brexit deal 'very wide'

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said that the gap between UK and EU reaching a Brexit deal is 'very wide'.

Leo Varadkar revealed that the Irish Government has always been willing to explore alternative arrangements, "what they are seeing falls very far short" of what is needed.

He told RTÉ's Morning Ireland at  Fine Gael party think-in in Cork  : "We are exploring what is possible", adding "the gap is very wide but we will fight for and work for" a deal until the last moment, but "not at any cost".

Varadkar believes that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson "is acting in good faith" when Boris claims he wants a Brexit deal.

The Taoiseach added that some customs checks may be needed close to the border in the event of a no-deal Brexit but that the Government hasn't identified a location for where those checks would take place.

Leo also knows that addressing homelessness is a "huge challenge" for the Government but "we are doing more".
