Taoiseach Micheal Martin has described the return of people to their workspaces as a 'significant and welcome' milestone in Ireland's reopening plan.
For the first time in over 18 months, some employees have returned to their lace of work after spending the majority of the pandemic working from home.
In a post online, the Taoiseach has praised the efforts of the Irish public and had a special word of encouragement for all those in the arts, sports and cultural sectors.
"Welcome back to everyone returning to the workplace, and to all the arts, sports and cultural activities re-opening today. Another important milestone as we emerge from the pandemic - one made possible by the efforts of the Irish people and our successful vaccine rollout."
With lockdown restrictions easing, Dr Holohan has previously stated that the plan of having the majority of the rules lifted by October 22, however, he also encouraged people to adhere to the proper healthcare etiquette, especially in the workplace.
"In certain situations where you will meet other people, it will still be important for you to wear a mask. It'll still be important to take account of the surroundings that you're in, assess the risk from your own point of view and if you're concerned, stay away.
"Maintain your social distance as much as possible and in those limited number of settings like, for example, in the retail environment, on public transportation or attending a healthcare facility, the wearing of a mask will still be very important for you as an older person," he said.
