Taoiseach confirms Easter Bunny has 'eggs-emption' to lockdown after letter from Cork brothers

In the last year, we have seen many major events fall by the wayside.

But we now have confirmation from the Government that the Easter Bunny has a reasonable excuse to break lockdown restrictions.

Micheál Martin responded to a letter from a pair of young boys who had a couple of questions for him.

"Dear Mr T.

"As there has been no visitors because of the Covo virus we are wondering if the Easter Bunny will be allowed into our houses."

There was an anxious wait for an answer as to whether the famous hopper would get the same treatment as Santa Claus did at Christmas time.

But this afternoon, they got a response from the leader of the country himself, Mr.T.

Mr Martin said: "I know that we all have to be very careful over the next number of days, but I have good news for you.

"Over the next couple of days, there's going to be an eggs-emption for the Easter Bunny so that the children of Ireland can get treats given how they've worked so hard all year against Covid-19."

The Taoiseach did not indicate whether anyone else would receive this special eggs-emption.

With the Easter weekend upon us, Dr Ronan Glynn and the Chief Medical Officer for Northern Ireland have jointly appealed to the public across the island to continue to follow public health advice to ensure everyone can have a safe Easter.

However, with families and friends extremely likely to meet up over the coming days, Dr Glynn did admit that this was only a natural occurrence but if this does happen, it's best to meet up outdoors.

"Of course, we're aware that some people are already doing that (meeting up), but what I'll say to people is that if you've made a decision to meet up with another household - while that's not our advice at the moment - but if you're going to do that, do it outdoors," he said.

However, here's what the current state of play is regarding Easter gatherings, as per the government's advice.
