'Tantalising' - Former Nottingham Forest striker given big billing as he makes non-league move

Nottingham Forest academy graduate Craig Westcarr has joined Newark Football Club for the 2020/21 season.

The 35-year-old, who has also played for Notts County and Mansfield Town, was previously at fellow non-league side Grantham Town.

Announcing his arrival, Newark said: “Craig’s wealth of experience within the professional game, and more recently with higher placed clubs in the FA’s National League system, makes him a fantastic signing for Newark Football Club.

“As a player who has played football with all five of our nearest professional clubs, Craig’s inclusion in the squad is something tantalising and really very special.

“It will be a real treat to welcome Craig more formally to the football club once training begins.”

Westcarr became the youngest player to represent the Reds when he made his debut in October 2001, aged 16, coming off the bench to replace David Johnson n a 1-0 win over Burnley.

He made 23 league appearances for the club and had loan spells at Lincoln City and MK Dons, before joining Cambridge United in 2005.

In addition to the Magpies and the Stags, he has also represented Chesterfield, Walsall, Portsmouth and Alfreton Town, among others.

The Nottingham-born forward was also capped by England at various age levels.
