Baltimore Ravens safety Earl Thomas said earlier in the week that if the Tennessee Titans attempt to throw the ball, “it won’t go in their favor.”
In that case, the Ravens would be focused on stopping running back Derrick Henry – who finished out the 2019 season with the NFL rushing title.
But the Titans have proven they can win postseason games even when the passing game is limited.
Take last week’s 20-13 victory over the New England Patriots as an example.
Quarterback Ryan Tannehill completed 8-of-15 passes for 72 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
The game was a bit of an outlier for Tannehill statistically, who threw for at least 259 yards in six of his 10 regular season starts, finishing three games over 300 yards.
According to Next Gen Stats, those 72 yards are the lowest in a playoff game since 2009.
Quarterback Joe Flacco was the starter in Baltimore at that time, and was 4-of-10 passing for 34 yards and an interception on the team’s 33-14 victory.
That matchup was between none other than the Patriots and the Ravens in a Wild Card game — both teams the Titans have already had to go through or will have to defeat as they look to continue their Super Bowl run.
The Titans and Ravens are set to face off at 7:15 p.m. CST on Saturday in M&T Bank Stadium.
