Tank Watch: Bengals are now one of two winless teams fighting for 2020’s top pick

Two winless teams remain in the NFL.

Now at 0-6, the outlook for the Cincinnati Bengals firmly rests on the draft order for the 2020 NFL draft. The coaching staff and players want to win games, but for fans, a focus on long-term player evaluation and the draft order comes before most anything else.

According to Tankathon, the Bengals are currently alone in first place as far as the first overall pick goes, even ahead of the winless Miami Dolphins.

For now, thank the fact Miami had an early bye, which means the Bengals have one more loss on record. And yet those Dolphins almost secured a win on Sunday over Washington, another team that had previously been winless.

Unlike the Dolphins this week though, the Bengals haven’t been as competitive as final scores might suggest. The 23-17 loss to Baltimore saw a game where the Bengals coughed up 269 rushing yards and were outgained 497-250.

The Bengals could always end up improving and winning some games but a late-season matchup with those Dolphins would seem to hold massive draft implications.
