Tanguy Ndombele transfer talks confirmed by Lyon president as Spurs make breakthrough

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has called upon Ligue 1 clubs to step up and bid for Tanguy Ndombele in order to keep the midfielder in France.

Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as leaders in the race to sign the 22-year-old according to French media.

Manchester City were previously tipped to win his signature after he dominated Pep Guardiola's side in the Champions League group stage.

His teammate Nabil Fekir has also been linked with a big money move elsewhere this summer after missing out on a switch to Liverpool last year, prior to helping to lift the World Cup in Russia.

Aulas has confirmed that talks are ongoing over a deal to sell Ndombele and has called on Ligue 1 clubs to challenge the bids made by foreign sides.

The young midfielder has been high up on the wish list of summer signings for Spurs fans who want to see Mauricio Pochettino replace Mousa Dembele.

In January, the Belgian left Tottenham for a new challenge in the Chinese Super League. He left England with a reputation for being one of the most difficult players to face in a battle over possession and excelled at bringing the ball forward.

Ndombele has a similar set of skills to Dembele but it had been assumed that Spurs would miss out on signing him due to the compeititon for his services.

However, Pochettino could be set to get his man with Tottenham having fought their way to the Champions League final to face Liverpool in June.

"I am negotiating with the biggest European clubs for Ndombele," said Aulas in an interview with L'Equipe, as reported by Goal.

"I'm the one who revived the Paris Saint-Germain talks so that they don't feel dismissed. If PSG aligns with the three offers received and Tanguy agrees, it would be nice if he goes there."

Juventus are also said to be interested in Ndombele and could be the third foreign team in discussion with Lyon after Manchester City and Spurs.
