Tanguy Ndombele makes Jose Mourinho admission over his difficult moments at Tottenham

Tanguy Ndombele says his relationship with Jose Mourinho is strong despite some "difficult moments" last season.

The midfielder joined Spurs from Lyon in the summer of 2019 for £55m but he struggled to make an immediate impression under Mauricio Pochettino.

He was regularly left out of the team when Jose Mourinho was appointed manager in November 2019, with the Portuguese boss questioning his work-rate.

Yet Ndombele has responded well to Mourinho's treatment of him and has been in fine form this season bringing guile, energy and imagination to the midfield.

Speaking to the club's YouTube channel, the 23-year-old said he is in a good place at Spurs having started five league games.

He said: "There's been good and bad things since the start, we've dropped points against Newcastle and West Ham but overall we're well placed and it's been a decent start.

"We seem to be on the right track and so everybody's happy. Everybody's positive among the team and right now things are going fine.

"I am working a bit differently now, I find myself working harder in training and in the matches, but above all, I think I've just settled in better.

"It's true that the last season was difficult for me, to change championships like that is not easy. but now I feel like I'm really settling in better and I really hope that I'm on the right track for the future.

"Moussa, Serge, Hugo have helped an awful lot in terms of settling into the club. Last season they were always there for me when I was playing well or not so well and that was really good for me.

"I've got a good relationship with the coach, we speak together, we laugh together And the more difficult moments last season we've left behind us We're now both trying our hardest to help the team."
