Tanguy Ndombele and the midfield masterclass that will have Man City fearful of Spurs clash

Tottenham will visit the Etihad Stadium for the third time since April on Saturday evening as they play their second game of the new season against Man City.

With Spurs sealing a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Aston Villa at the weekend, Pep Guardiola's team romped to a comfortable 5-0 win at West Ham in the lunchtime game.

It's going to be extremely hard for the Lilywhites against the reigning Premier League champions but they will travel in confidence after their late win on the opening weekend.

Tanguy Ndombele played a big part in the victory against the newly-promoted side with his fine goal in the 73rd minute the catalyst for the team to go on and win courtesy of Harry Kane's double.

Mauricio Pochettino was full of praise for the club-record signing after the game and claimed that there is still so much more to come from the Frenchman.

"It was a fantastic performance," he said. "But to be honest there is a lot to improve, he only showed 30 or 40 per cent of his potential.

"He has amazing potential to improve."

Ndombele has fond memories of his last trip to the Etihad and he will be hoping for even more success this Saturday.

The French international was part of the Lyon side that beat City 2-1 in the Champions League last September as he played a pivotal role in the middle of the park.

He was key to the victory as he caused the hosts a whole host of problems during his 90 minutes on the pitch with a powerful display in midfield.

Ndombele always looked to get the ball moving forward and he also created a couple of openings for Memphis Depay and Maxwell Cornet during the win.

As impressive as he was in the first game between the two, he was as good if not even better in the 2-2 draw in France two months later.

He gave City the runaround and showcased his incredible talent once again as City registered a late point courtesy of Sergio Aguero's 83rd minute goal.

Teammate Houssem Aouar was another player to catch the eye in the draw and both earned high praise from Guardiola after the game.

"Houssem Aouar is a very good player, he is incredible," he told reporters after the match. "We talk a lot about Ndombele, but Aouar is also excellent.

"He's always very calm with the ball at his feet, with an excellent technical quality.

"Lyon really has a very good team. There are young people full of quality and I think the team is in place tactically, I think we can congratulate them, we have had absences tonight, but we have to congratulate them."

Guardiola knows all about the threat Ndombele poses and you can bet he drills it into his players over the coming days about the importance of nullifying the new Spurs signing.

However, it's still going to take the player time to hit the heights he did at Lyon as he'll need a while to get used to Pochettino's demands and the speed of the Premier League.

He certainly didn't look out of place against Aston Villa at the weekend and he'll be looking to better that performance and be even more impressive against City.

A repeat of his last showing in Manchester would go down extremely well on Saturday evening as Spurs look to cause an early shock in the title race.

Showing only "30 or 40 per cent of his potential" at present, he's going to be some player for Spurs once he really gets going.
