The mother of Nida "Tangmo" Patcharaveerapong wants a former chief of the Central Institute of Forensic Science to perform a new autopsy on the late actress, because she has doubts about the first, according to her lawyer.

Krissana Sriboonpimsuay, who represents Panida Sirayootyotin, Tangmo's mother, said there were many suspicious aspects to the case.

He would ask the Royal Thai Police Office to request Khunying Porntip Rojanasunan, former director-general of the Central Institute of Forensic Science, to perform a fresh autopsy.

Mr Krissana was speaking at Muang police station in Nonthaburi province on Monday. He said he was following up on forensic findings in the case because "there are doubts". He would not elaborate.

The lawyer said he would seek a meeting with Khunying Porntip, who is now a senator. His client had confidence in her abilities. He said Ms Panida and Tangmo's elder brother both had many doubts about the case.

Khunying Porntip, who was at the parliament on Monday, told reporters that she was ready to give advice on the autopsy, but could not do it herself.

Pol Lt Gen Jirapat Phumijit, commissioner of the Provincial Police Region 1, said on Monday that compilation of the results of the autopsy was being hurried as much as possible. He would like the interrogators in the case to decide on the issue of the autopsy.

The commissioner also said that interrogators had already questioned 65 people as witnesses in the case.

Tangmo, 37, fell into the Chao Phraya River near Pibul 1 pier in Muang district of Nonthaburi around 10.40pm on Feb 24 while travelling in a speedboat with five other people. Her body was found about 1pm on Feb 26.

Pol Maj Gen Yingyos Thepjamnong, spokesman for the Royal Thai Police Office, said on Monday that beginning on Tuesday a deputy spokesman for Provincial Police Region 1 would give a daily briefing on the case at the regional headquarters, to prevent any confusion.

Two of the people on the speedboat, Tanupat "Por" Lerttaweewit, the owner, and Phaiboon "Robert" Trikanjananun, the driver, were charged with operating an unlicensed vessel and negligence leading to death.
