Prominent Manchester businesswoman Sandy Lindsay MBE has been appointed to the board of the Rugby Football League.
Ms Lindsay, founder and chair of Tangerine Communications and digital apprenticeship programme The Juice Academy has joined the board as non-executive director.
Ms Lindsey, who was awarded the MBE for services to business and young people in 2015, founded the specialist communications agency in Manchester in 2002 and launched The Juice Academy in 2013.
She was appointed to the board alongside chair Simon Johnson and Dr Rimla Akhtar MBE following a recruitment process which involved representatives of all sections of the game – Super League, Championship, League One and the Community Game – and Sport England.
Ms Lindsey said: “The Rugby Football League role ‘found me’ at a time when I was looking to spread my wings into new and exciting sectors and challenges, having bedded down Tangerine’s Employee Ownership.
“The League has been through interesting times of late and there are very exciting growth opportunities to be had, especially with the World Cup on the horizon in 2021.
“I’m very much looking forward also to seeing how I can bring my community and business links into play on behalf of the sport.”
The appointment comes following her decision to put Tangerine into employee ownership, which has seen her expand her non-executive-director portfolio.
Her portfolio includes coding bootcamp Northcoders and culture software enterprise Flock and she is also trustee of Forever Manchester and director of the North West Business Leadership Team.
