Tanaiste Leo Varadkar’s shared an picture of himself and partner Dr Matthew Barrett enjoying dinner on Instagram last night.
The pair were seen dining out on a takeaway Asador beef box at their home, celebrating the last weekend within their 5km travel limit.
The Tánaiste said: “Treating ourselves to an Asador beef box for the last weekend within our 5km. Hoping for sunshine and picnic boxes next weekend."
The pair have been together since 2015.
Despite the multitude of headlines surrounding his Fine Gael partner, Dr Barrett has virtually kept himself out of the media spotlight, only appearing in newspapers on special occasions, such as being pictured with the Tanaiste at the Gay Pride parade in Dublin or when the two visited former US Vice President Mike Pence.
Barrett comes from an education background, with both his parents taught as primary school teachers and encouraged him to speak Irish at home, which he revealed in an interview he did for TG4.
Barrett graduated from UCD School of Medicine in2009 and completed his MRCPI in 2011, before going on to complete his specialist registrar training in clinical cardiology 2016.
He began working as a UCD and RCPI lecturer in clinical cardiology that year.
Mr Varadkar’s personal life rarely makes the media headlines, but in his run for Taoiseach he mentioned that “Matt is just a very special person.
"Someone who is unconditionally on my side, which is always great.
“He is the kind of person who has made me a better person.
“Matt is definitely cleverer than me, which occasionally I can find intimidating.”
Barrett also admitted that he has been helping Varadkar with his Irish since becoming Taoiseach and they often speak it while they're on holidays.
