Tanaiste Leo Varadkar makes most of Christmas break with mini-holiday alongside partner Matt

Tanaiste Leo Varadkar has shared pictures of a recent holiday in Ireland during his Christmas break.

The Fine Gael leader headed to Donegal with partner Matt Barrett while the Dail was on recess.

Mr Varadkar and Matt headed for Sliabh Liag as well as the the One Man's Pass, sharing images of both on his Instagram story.

The politician also tried the much-loved football special drink which is sure to please locals.

Varadkar said last year that he hopes we will all be able to enjoy happy holidays in 2022 once the Omicron wave passes.

Speaking when restrictions were first re-imposed, Mr Varadkar said: "I’m determined that should not be the case next summer, that we should open safely if we can and not have the toughest restrictions in Europe in the summer of 2022.

“But we need to work on that basis I believe that we should make the most of summer 2022 more so than we did for the last two summers and I’ll be a strong advocate of that you can be sure of that and we need to get through this winter but also begin preparation for next winter and not assume it’ll be over by then.

“There will be lots more variants and lots more strains so we need to prepare for winter of next year as well and that includes building up the capacity of our health service, the test, trace and isolate system and it also does mean we need to encourage our scientists and pharmaceutical companies to develop new vaccines for new variants.”
