Tanaiste Leo Varadkar heads off on holiday break for first time since March

Tanaiste Leo Varadkar is off on his holidays while heeding his own advice to take a staycation this summer.

The former Taoiseach shared a picture of him and his partner exploring West Clare as they tour the home of Father Ted.

Mr Varadkar tweeted: " First weekend outside Dublin since March. #CraggyIsland."

The Fine Gael leader picked a good weekend for it too with clear skies and decent heat in Clare at the moment.

Varadkar and Dr Holohan were big advocates of the staycation this summer while at the helm and the now Tanaiste is certainly following that advice.

This comes a day before the Cabinet is set to discuss a green list which will state which countries are deemed safe to visit.

Although even when this list is announced Irish people will be asked not to travel abroad unless it is an essential journey.
