Tanaiste Leo Varadkar enjoys mini-staycation in Kilkenny during bank holiday weekend

Tanaiste Leo Varadkar. made the most of the June bank holiday with hotels reopened by heading away on a mini staycation.

Mr Varadkar shared snaps of his bank holiday trip to Kilkenny on Instagram on Sunday, where he enjoyed the sunshine and the beautiful scenery.

The first image shows Mr Varadkar chatting to workers and customers at Thomastown’s Watties Ice Cream Shop.

The Tanaiste appeared to be enjoying the summer weather as he posed for a picture with a huge smile on his face, holding a Watties sundae.

In a post to his 199k followers, Mr Varadkar said: "Stopped by for an ice cream in Thomastown on the way back from a great weekend in Kilkenny. Feels like summer."

Watties replied to Mr Varadkars post, saying: "Cheers for the stop off Leo, much appreciated hope to see you again!"

Mr Varadkar also shared an image as he took a scenic stroll down by a river. The photo shows a stone bridge towering over the beautiful river water as it glistens in the sunshine.

Many followers commented on the post wishing Mr Varadkar a relaxing bank holiday.

One user said: “Excellent. Hope you had a relaxing weekend. I surely did.”

Another said: “We saw you last night heading for dinner, great to see some normality”.
