Tammy Abraham tipped to complete surprise summer transfer as Chelsea could receive £40m windfall

Tammy Abraham's Chelsea future has been called into question for much of 2021.

Having fallen out of favour under Blues head coach Thomas Tuchel, there has been talk of the striker leaving Stamford Bridge during the summer transfer window in the search of regular first-team football.

And amid reports that Abraham has been told he can leave Chelsea, Aston Villa have immediately been linked with bringing him back to Villa Park following a successful loan spell a couple of seasons ago.

Interestingly, The Mirror haved suggested that Aston Villa are ready to lodge a £40m bid - a windfall that could go a long way to funding a deal for Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland.

However, despite those links, Villa aren't leading the race to sign Abraham.

In a surprising twist, according to SkyBet, it is Manchester United who are being tipped to raid their Premier League rivals to sign the striker to provide competition for Edinson Cavani.

Whether the Blues would even consider doing business with United remains to be seen, but it doesn't appear that Tuchel would stand in Abraham's way if he wanted to move to Old Trafford.

"I don’t think he’s the top scorer since I arrived,” Tuchel said of the 23-year-old back in April. "I can only judge what I see. I saw a bright young man in front of me. I saw a guy who is self-confident, who has a lot of talent.

"But it cannot be that in a period of such good results that suddenly the guys who don’t play are the winners.

"This is not logical to me. He was for some weeks not available, so is it now the moment to do crazy stuff and try things?

"If you just look at the data, you will say: ‘OK, he’s the top scorer.’ If you look at the data since we are here, it will maybe tell you a different story.

"Tammy had a bit of a rough time. He was twice substituted for tactical reasons at half-time.

"He could not have the impact he demands from himself and we wish from him."
