Tammy Abraham scores first goal at Stamford Bridge - three years after home debut

Tammy Abraham is off the mark at Stamford Bridge - three years after he made his first-team debut for Chelsea.

The 21-year-old striker has had to bide his time, with loan moves at Bristol City, Swansea City and Aston Villa since Guus Hiddink introduced him to the first team at the end of the 2015-16 season.

But he followed up last week's brace away to Norwich City by scoring the opening goal against Sheffield United - firing home a rebound from about ten yards after his initial attempt had been spilled by visiting goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

Christian Pulisic deserved plenty of credit for the goal too, feeding the ball to Cesar Azpilicueta on the right wing before making himself a nuisance in front of Henderson, who was pressurised into fumbling the ball back towards Abraham.

The striker, who was also on the front of the match programme, made no mistake the second time of asking and the joy on his face as he raced away to celebrate was obvious.

Chelsea had been struggling to break Sheffield United down up until that point, with the visitors defending in numbers, but they enjoyed a spell of dominance upon taking the lead and Mateo Kovacic went close to doubling their advantage ten minutes before the break after being set up by Abraham.

He added a second three minutes before the break, though, when capitalising on a defensive mix up to race forward and fire into the bottom left corner.
