Tammy Abraham pays Mason Mount the ultimate compliment to excite Chelsea fans

Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has suggested that fellow Blues star Mason Mount could follow in the footsteps of head coach Frank Lampard and become just as big a success as he was during his Stamford Bridge career.

Mount, who would have had ambitions to play for England at this summer's European Championships had they not been suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic, enjoyed a successful loan spell at Derby County last season under Lampard's watch.

Following Lampard's appointment as Blues boss last summer, it opened the door for Mount to stake a claim for a first-team spot at Stamford Bridge, and he has certainly grabbed that opportunity with both hands.

Chelsea Q&A with Oliver Harbord

The 21-year-old attacking-midfielder, who had a loan stint at Vitesse Arnhem in the past, has racked up 41 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring six goals and registering five assists, as he has cemented himself as one of the most exciting young prospects in the Premier League.

“When we were growing up, him and John Terry were massive for us over in the academy," Abraham told Chelsea's 5th stand app.

“Lampard was always a leader, he always wanted to train the best, be the best. You could see that in his character.

“I see similarities in Mason Mount, you know.

“You can see that he has obviously studied the way the gaffer played and that’s huge; because he knows about scoring, he knows about defending, he knows about passing.

“He knows about everything, so it’s nice to have a manager with that experience.”

Abraham, of course, has also benefited from Lampard's youthful approach, stepping up to the task of being Chelsea's first-choice striker this season, scoring 15 times in all competitions.
