Tammy Abraham has already proved Jose Mourinho wrong after Chelsea exit

Roma manager Jose Mourinho has admitted that striker Tammy Abraham has already proved him wrong following his move from Chelsea during the summer transfer window.

Abraham opted to leave Stamford Bridge with first-team opportunities under Thomas Tuchel likely to remain limited throughout the 2021-22 campaign thanks to the impending arrival of Romelu Lukaku.

The Champions League winner joined his former manager in Serie A and has adapted quickly to life in Italy, scoring one and assisting two in his opening two matches.

The speed at which Abraham has adapted to life in a different country has taken Mourinho by surprise, the Portuguese recently admitted.

“There is always a small doubt for a player who is born and raised in England," he said of the striker's move.

"They don't leave London so much and it’s not easy to adapt. But my doubt has already passed. Tammy is already perfectly integrated with the team and friends in Roma.”

After impressing during loan spells with Bristol City and Aston Villa, Abraham was given a shot in the Chelsea first-team under Frank Lampard in 2019-20, scoring 15 Premier League goals in 34 appearances.

Opportunities have been limited under Tuchel, however, making just seven appearances under the German in the second-half of last season.

Mourinho was sacked from his role as Tottenham manager in April 2021 amid the chaos of the European Super League.

After replacing Paulo Fonseca at the Stadio Olimpico he will be hoping to recapture the success he previously forged in Italy with the treble-winning Inter Milan side a decade ago.
