Tammy Abraham: Chelsea star insists he's revelling under goalscoring pressure

Tammy Abraham insists he is enjoying the pressure of leading Chelsea’s attack despite the goalscoring burden currently on his shoulders.

The 22-year-old has scored 15 goals in the Premier League and Champions League this season, as well as contributing five assists.

But Abraham has endured several injuries this season, with his ankle problem last month the latest setback.

The former Aston Villa forward has only scored two goals in his last nine games for the Blues, who remain fourth, but now have Tottenham breathing down their necks just four points behind.

“I can’t complain. It’s been a great season for me so far. I would like to push on. There are massive games coming up, in the Champions League also,” Abraham told the club’s official website.

“Playing for a club like Chelsea there is always going to be pressure. For me it’s about being in the right place at the right time, and believing in myself and my abilities. I’m sure I will score a few more. I like the pressure.

“As a team we’ve had a lot of ups and downs. We started off well, we had a spell where we were losing a bit, and now we’re starting to pick up again. This break will do us good because we have some massive games coming up. We need to be ready for them and prepare ourselves.”

The Blues next face Manchester United on Monday 17 February, where Abraham hopes to see the benefits of their mid-season break.

“I’m definitely in favour of the winter break. It’s a chance to reflect and forget about football for a week and come back all guns blazing,” Abraham added.

“Mentally and physically, we all need this after a long, hard first few months of the season. It gets to the point where people start to get leggy and there are a few injuries coming. Now we can take time off and recover our bodies and our minds.”
