Tamim Iqbal opens up on heart attack, thanks trainer for timely CPR

Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has shared a heartfelt message of gratitude after being discharged from the hospital following a heart attack.

Tamim, who retired from international cricket in January 2025, was leading Mohammedan Sporting Club in a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match against Shinepukur Cricket Club when he experienced chest discomfort immediately after the toss. He was initially taken to a local hospital but later collapsed, prompting an urgent angioplasty surgery on Monday.

On Friday, four days after the incident, Tamim was discharged and took to Facebook to express his emotions.

"By all your prayers, I am at home now," he wrote in Bangla. "In these four days, I have discovered my surroundings as I found a new life. All that realisation has only love and gratitude. I have got your love throughout my career. But now I have felt it even more intensely. I am really overwhelmed."

He also extended his deep appreciation to medical professionals, hospitals, support staff, and well-wishers. In particular, he thanked trainer Yakub Chowdhury Dalim, whose timely CPR was crucial in saving his life.

"How to thank our trainer Yakub Chowdhury Dalim bhai, I don't really know. I learned later, the specialist doctors said that I wouldn't have been saved if Dalim Bhai had not given CPR properly at that time," he wrote.

Tamim acknowledged that his road to full recovery is still long and requested prayers for himself and his family.

Tamim played 387 matches across formats for Bangladesh, amassing 15,192 runs, including 25 centuries. He is Bangladesh’s second-highest run-scorer in international cricket, behind only Mushfiqur Rahim.
