CHENNAI: While two women (J Jayalalithaa and V K Sasikala) were able to overcome many hurdles, unite two factions of the AIADMK and make it the third largest party in the country, some men were now fighting to establish their superiority in the party, thereby destroying it, said Sasikala at Thiruchitrambalam in Vanur assembly segment on Thursday.
She said the cadres were disappointed with the present leadership of the AIADMK and wanted her to lead the party.
She recalled that the AIADMK was formed overcoming several odds and the DMK’s efforts to destroy it. “Thousands of cadres spilled their blood to nurture it. But the DMK foisted false cases against them. Many of them lost their houses and property,” she said.
Sasikala said her contribution for the growth of the party cannot be refuted by anyone. She had worked with Jayalalithaa for 35 long years to build the party, she said. Jayalalithaa took on a mighty opposition without any ally on her side and still won the elections. Many attempts were made by the opponents to create a wedge between herself and Jayalalithaa, but they never succeeded in those efforts, she said.
She said the cadre response to her campaign was giving her confidence that the true cadres are still with her. “The AIADMK will march along the path of victory again and the party should be led by a single leader, chosen by the cadres, who is sensitive to their needs and one who is not afraid to act or speak against the ruling DMK, she said.
